CLARION WRESTLERS VISIT RIDER – PENN SUNDAY
(CLARION, PA.): The Clarion University wrestling team will travel to Lawrenceville, N.J. on Sunday to wrestle EWL foe Rider at Noon, then stay and wrestle the University of Pennsylvania at 2pm, before returning to Clarion.
The Clarion – Rider match will be available on C-93 (WCCR-FM – 92.7) in Clarion and on the internet on Redzonemdia.com with
Rich Herman calling the action.
The Golden Eagles opened the 2014-15 wrestling season hosting the Clarion Open on November 2 with three Clarion wrestlers in Saturday's lineup earning places including
Daniel Sutherland (3
rd at 174),
Michael Pavasko (4
th at 174) and
Evan DeLong (4
th at 157). On November 15 Clarion participated in the Eastern Michigan duals and lost four dual matches to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (19-12), #17 Northwestern (39-6). Central Michigan (34-6) and Northern Illinois (31-7). Then on November 22, Clarion hosted four-time and defending NCAA D-I National Champion Penn State at Tippin Gym and lost a 44-0 decision in front of 2,875 fans.

Rider, led by head coach Gary Taylor who is in his 37
th season leading the Broncs, has 407 Division I victories, second most in the NCAA among active coaches. He has a dual meet record of 407-230-5 and will likely feature the following lineup. J.R. Wert (5-4) at 125; Rob Deutsch (7-1) at 133; Chuck Zeisloft (6-2) at 141; B.J. Clagon (9-1) at 149; Chad Walsh (6-3) at 157; Connor Brennan (1-2) at 165; Ryan Wolfe (5-4) at 174; Clint Morrison (2-1) at 184; Don McNeil (5-4) at 197 and Greg Velasco (4-4) at 285.
Rider is currently 3-1 on the season having opened up with a 28-9 win over Northern Illinois, a 29-6 loss to Illinois, a 312-9 win over SIUE and a 20-19 victory over Wisconsin on November 20
th.
Penn is led by first year head coach Alex Tirapelle, who spent the last four seasons as an assistant at Stanford. A 006 graduate of Illinois, Tirapelle was a to-time All-American at Illinois, including a national runer-up finish as a freshman in 2003. He finished his career as the Illini's all-time wins leader with 128 and a winning percentage of 87.7%.
Penn finished 10
th at the Keystone Classic and will open its dual met season on Sunday.
