CLARION LOSES 32-6 TO #13 EDINBORO IN NCAA D-I WRESTLING

(Edinboro, Pa.):   Clarion's Sam Sherlock (Sr. West Mifflin) at 141 and Evan Daley (So. Erie/Fort LeBoeuf) at 285 posted victories on Saturday night but it wasn't enough as #13 Edinboro defeated Clarion 32-6 in NCAA Division I wrestling.

Held at McComb Field House, Clarion's record dipped to0-8 overall and 0-2 in the EWL, while Edinboro raised its record to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the EWL.

Clarion trailed 12-0 when Sam Sherlock came on to post Clarions first victory. Sherlock decisioned Jensen Lorea 7-1 for the Golden Eagle win. Sherlock posted two, first period takedowns and a two point near fall in the second period to post the victory. Edinboro's #2 rated Mitchell Port did not wrestle.

After Brodie Zacherl lost a technical fall to #3 rated David Habat at 149, Clarion true freshman Evan DeLong wrestled a gem against Kasey Burnett-Davis before losing in overtime 4-2.

Davis posted a first period takedown, and DeLong a first and second period escape for a 2-2 tie entering the third. Burnett-Davis chose neutral and the duo battle the entire third period on their feet. DeLong nearly had a winning takedown with 20-seconds left in regulation, in control of one leg and reaching for the far ankle but just not able to reel it in. Davis posted the winning takedown off a counter with about 20-seconds left in the sudden victory period.

Slade Horner lost 6-3 to Casey Fuller at 165, Michael PAvasko lost 10-3 to Zach Towers at 174, Daniel Sutherland lost 10-5 to Nick Mitchell at 184 and Ryan Darch lost a tough 6-2 decision to Vince Pickett at 197.

Clarion heavyweight Evan Daley posted the Eagles second victory of the night with a 6-5 win over Warren Bosch at 285. Daley and Bosch were tied 4-4 entering the third period when Daley escaped and had riding time secured. A penalty point awarded to Bosch late made the match interesting, but Daley's 1:29 riding time prevailed 6-5.

Clarion will return to Tippin Gym on Friday, December 19 to host Bloomsburg at 7pm.
