WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Clarion University women's basketball team will play the first of four games away from Tippin Gym at 1 p.m. Saturday when it travels to West Chester for a PSAC Crossover contest.
The Golden Eagles (1-8 overall, 0-5 PSAC West), under first-year head coach
Jana Ashley, will try to snap a five-game losing streak against one of the top teams in the PSAC East.
West Chester (8-1 overall, 5-1 PSAC East) dropped its first game of the season Wednesday at Gannon, 69-61, after starting 8-0 including a 63-57 victory at Mercyhurst Tuesday.
Clarion, meanwhile, fell to East Stroudsburg, 60-41, Wednesday and to Bloomsburg, 65-48, Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles have struggled to score this season ranking 17
th in the 18-team PSAC in scoring at 57.1 points per game. Bloomsburg, on the other hand, has the second-best scoring defensive in the conference allowing 59.6 points per game.
Clarion has just two players averaging in double digits, and one of them, senior forward
Hannah Heeter (14.1 ppg, 11.6 rpg) missed the game Wednesday with an injury.
Tania Holmes leads the Golden Eagles in scoring at 14.8 points per game, the 10
th-best mark in the PSAC. She adds 2.7 assists per contest, the 28
th-best mark in the conference, to go with 3.8 rebounds per game and 2.2 steals per game, the seventh-best mark in the PSAC.
Delrika Jones-Carey adds 8.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, the 13
th-best mark in the conference, while
Jasmine Boyd, who missed Tuesday's game before playing Wednesday, chips in 7.0 points per game.
Maria Taylor adds 5.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest, and freshman point guard
Amesha Harden-Pullium ranks 22
nd in the PSAC in assists with 2.9 per game while adding 3.7 points. Clarion got a boast Tuesday when
Miaja Coursey played her first game for the Golden Eagles. In two contests, Coursey has scored 11 points while grabbing eight rebounds.
West Chester has three players scoring in double digits led by Dallas Ely's 17.0 points per game, which is the fifth-best mark in the PSAC. Ely adds 3.2 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game.
Brittany Sicinski chips in 12.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest, while Chikisha Steele-Hook adds 11.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
After Saturday, Clarion is off until Dec. 31 when it travels to Lake Erie. The Golden Eagles are then at Cheyney Jan. 3 and at Millersville Jan. 4 before returning home to face Shippensburg Jan. 7.
