Emma Fickel moved into 10
th place in school history in scoring, but a season-worst shooting night hampered Clarion in a 73-33 PSAC West loss at fifth-ranked Gannon Wednesday night.
Fickel scored a team-high eight points giving her 1,053 in her career, one shy of tying Kim Beanner for ninth.
But the Golden Eagles (10-14 overall, 4-10 PSAC West) shot 23.1 percent (12 of 52) and were held to their lowest scoring total in 30 years.
Gannon (24-2, 13-2) led 37-21 at halftime and then outscored Clarion 36-12 in the second half on thanks in part to a 19-2 run to start the second half.
Tania Holmes added seven points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals for Clarion, while
Hannah Heeter had five points and eight rebounds but saw her double-double streak end at nine on the day she was named a Capital One/CoSIDA first-team Academic All-America, her fourth Academic All-America award in her career.
Mollie Sebald led Gannon with 13 points and five rebounds. Nettie Blake added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Brittany Batts had 12 points.
Clarion returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday when it hosts Mercyhurst on Senior Day. It's the final home game of the year for the Golden Eagles.
NOTES – The point total was the lowest since scoring 30 in a 78-30 loss against Slippery Rock Feb. 15, 1984 … Despite the loss, Clarion remains in a tie with Mercyhurst and Seton Hill for the sixth and final PSAC Playoff spot awarded to the PSAC West.
