SOFTBALL DROPS HOME DH TO EDINBORO

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion University softball team dropped a pair of games to Edinboro Thursday afternoon at Memorial Field.
 
The doubleheader was originally started on Monday April 14th but was suspended in the top of the second inning due to rain with Edinboro holding a 1-0 advantage.
 
When the teams resumed on Thursday, Edinboro won game one 9-1 in six innings and also won the nightcap 9-1 in five innings.
 
In game one, trailing 1-0 in the second, Casey Wilcox hit an RBI single to drive in Kayla Henderson to tie the game at one.
 
 Edinboro (12-16 overall, 7-9 PSAC West) regained the lead with a run in the third to make it 2-1.  The Fighting Scots took control in the fourth inning while scoring six runs and then added a run each in the fifth and sixth for the 9-1 victory.
 
Ashley Barenchik and Christina Tressler each went 2-for-3 for the Golden Eagles.  Henderson went 2-for-2 with a run scored while Casey Wilcox was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
 
Chelsea Zola started the game on the mound for Clarion (1-20, 0-14).  She went three innings while giving up eight hits, seven runs, five earned, and two walks.  In relief, Paige Baker gave up two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out one in her three innings of work.
 
Samantha Weaver got the win for Edinboro while going the distance.  She gave up one run and eight hits while striking out two.
 
Shelby Proctor led the Fighting Scots offense while going 3-for-3 with a home run and a pair of RBI's.
 
In game two, Edinboro scored a run in the top of the first inning to make it 1-0.  Clarion answered in the bottom half of the inning when Tressler doubled in Barenchik for the lone Golden Eagles run.
 
Edinboro made it 2-1 in the second inning before scoring a combined seven runs in the third and fourth innings to clinch the 9-1 win in five innings.
 
Shawnna Crago got the loss for Clarion on the mound while going all five innings.  Of the nine runs given up, only four of them were earned due to six Clarion errors.  She gave up seven hits, walked two, while striking out a pair. 
 
Kalet Lenart got the win for Edinboro while striking out nine with one earned run in five innings.
 
Jordan Syfert, Tressler, and Henderson each had a hit a piece for Clarion. 
 
The Golden Eagles return to action for a home doubleheader Friday against IUP with the first game beginning at 2:30 p.m.
