Box Score 2 CLARION, Pa. – Despite a good outing from Game One pitcher
Paige Baker, the Clarion Golden Eagle softball team was swept by Gannon Thursday afternoon at Memorial Field.
Clarion dropped Game One 2-0 and Game Two 4-1.
Baker only let up six hits and one earned run in her seven innings of work. She walked one and struck out one.
In Game One, Gannon's Jess Rectenwald, the winning pitcher, only allowed four hits in her complete-game shutout and also had two hits of her own. Catcher
Megan Anderson led Clarion with two hits while
Elizabeth Shiring and
Kayla Henderson each added one. Racehl deGuia and Alexa Archambeault had the two RBIs for Gannon as they went on to win game one 2-0.
In the second game, Clarion's
Kirsten Wilcox leadoff single to left, one of her two hits, gave her the opportunity to score to take an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after a throwing error by Gannon's catcher Alyssa Bates.
Nevertheless, winning pitcher Olivia Gumbita settled down and held Clarion to zero runs in the next six innings. She finished the game allowing six hits and no earned runs.
Losing pitcher
Chelsea Zola pitched four innings, allowing nine hits and three earned runs.
Lyndsey Jones came in for relief in the fifth and only let up two Gannon hits and no earned runs.
Clarion falls to 3-26, 2-20 in the PSAC West on the season and will return to action at 2:30 p.m. Friday for Senior Day in a home doubleheader with Seton Hill beginning at 1 p.m.
