Christina Tressler closed out her 2014 season by going a combined 3-for-6 with a double and a run scored, but it wasn't enough to keep the Clarion University softball team from being swept in a PSAC West doubleheader at Gannon.
The Golden Eagles, who finish the season 4-29 overall and 3-23 in the PSAC West, dropped Game One 10-2 in five innings and Game Two 4-0.
Tressler, a sophomore, who finished the season hitting .383, tied for the 12
th-best mark in the PSAC, with eight doubles, two homes runs and a team-high 13 RBIs to go with a .972 OPS, was 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the first game and then went 1-for-3 in the nightcap.
Senior
Kirsten Wilcox as well as sophomore
Ashley Barenchik both scored runs in Game One while going 1-for-3 in the contest, while senior
Elizabeth Shiring had an RBI hit by a pitch.
Freshman
Paige Baker took the loss going four innings and allowing nine runs, eight earned, on 12 hits and a walk while striking out two.
Gannon scored two runs each in the second, third and fourth innings before adding a five-run fifth to end the contest with the eight-run rule.
Clarion got solo runs in the fourth and fifth with Tressler's double coming in the fifth. The Golden Eagles had a prime chance to add more in the fourth with the bases loaded and one out but could only muster the one run.
In the second game, Gannon platted two in the second and two more in the fourth to get the 4-0 win.
Kayla Henderson led the Clarion offense with two hits in three at bats.
Lyndsey Jones took the loss going six innings and allowing the four runs, three earned, on eight hits while striking out one.
