CLARION WOMEN'S SWIMMERS EDGED BY IUP 120-116
CLARION, PA.:
Kristen Day (Sr. Reynoldsville/Dubois) was a double winner, and
Emilee Gysegem (Sr. Warren, Oh./Lakeview),
Gabriella Schaffer (Jr. Reading/Muhlenberg), and
Emily Ondrizek (Jr. Gettysburg) were individual event winners, but IUP rallied to edge Clarion on Friday night 120-116 in an NCAA Division II swimming and diving dual meet at Waldo S. Tippin Natatorium.
Day, the defending NCAA D-II Champion on 1 and 3 meter boards, won 1 meter with 272.85 points and also won the 3 meter competition with 311.55 points.
Emilee Gysegem won the 400 IM event with a time of 4:38.85, and
Gabriella Schaffer won her specialty, the 200 backstroke, with a time of 2:07.91.
Emily Ondrizek won the 100 freestyle (55.21), plus was second in the 50 free (24.97).
Also placing second in individual events were
Katie Gore (Fr. Pgh/Plum) in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.20), and
Anna McNurlen (Sr. Washington/McGuffey) in the 100 free (55.30).
The Clarion 400 medley relay team of
Schaffer, Gysegem, Kelsey Slayton (Sr. White Lake, Mi.) ands
McNurlen finished first with a time of 4:00.19, while the 400 free relay team of
Ondrizek, Alexis Lopez (Fr. Beaver Falls/Blackhawk
), Katie Querciagrossa (So. Peoria, il.) and
McNurlen were second with a time of 3:41.68.
In Diving
Lauren Slayton (Jr. White Lake, Mi.) was second on 3 meter with 260.60 points. While
Sarah Zerfoss (Jr. Shavertown/Dallas) was second on 1 meter with 271.85 points.
Clarion travels to Edinboro on Saturday for a meet that begins at 1pm.

Seniors Day, Kelsey Slayton, Gysegem, McNurlen, Christina Donohue (Crescent/Moon), Tracy Strong (Londonderry, N.H.) and Lauren Szoszorek (Erie/McDowell) were all honored in pre-match ceremonies.
