CLARION, Pa. – At 5:30 p.m. Wednesday the Clarion University women's basketball team returns home following a four-game road trip to host former PSAC West rival Shippensburg.
The Golden Eagles (1-12 overall, 0-8 PSAC West) are looking to snap a three-game losing streak against Shippensburg (7-7, 3-5 PSAC East), who was a PSAC West rival of the Golden Eagles from 1988-2008 when it moved to the PSAC East. The series between the teams is tied at 25 wins apiece with Clarion holding a 23-21 edge in conference contests, which Wednesday's game will count as.
Delrika Jones-Carey has really stepped her game up as of late for the Golden Eagles, who have lost nine straight. The sophomore is averaging 19.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game in her last three contests while recording the first two double-doubles of her career. On the year, she is nearly averaging a double-double recording 10.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, junior guard
Tania Holmes is the 10
th-leading scorer in the PSAC at 14.3 points per game and has scored 20 or more points four times this year including a career-best 30 points at Pitt-Johnstown Nov. 19.
Also for the Golden Eagles,
Jasmine Boyd is adding 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, while
Maria Taylor scores 5.6 points per contest to go with 3.9 rebounds per game.
Stephanie Knauer leads Shippensburg averaging 13.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, while Lauren Gold chips in with 11.9 points and Morgan Griffith 10.9 points and a team-best 9.5 rebounds per contest.
Following Wednesday's contest, Clarion returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it travels to Seton Hill for a PSAC West showdown.
