VETERANS DAY

CLARION WRESTLERS HOST EASTERN MICHIGAN SATURDAY AT 2PM

The Golden Eagle wrestling team will honor all military veterans in pre-match ceremonies and admit all veterans free of charge to the NCAA Division I dual meet on Saturday January 10 when the Golden Eagles host Eastern Michigan at Waldo S. Tippin Gym. Match time is set for 2pm.

The Clarion – Eastern Michigan match will be available on WCCR-FM – 92.7 for listeners in Clarion area, as well as on the internet on Redzonemdia.com with Rich Herman, Bob Bubb and John Stroup calling the action.

Clarion, under head coach Keith Ferraro, enters the match with a 1-9 dual meet record against a very tough schedule. On Thursday the Golden Eagles lost 42-5 to #28 Ohio University, while on December 19 Clarion posted its first dual meet victory under coach Ferraro with an exciting 20-19 criteria win over EWL and PSAC rival Bloomsburg at Waldo S. Tippin Gym.

The Golden Eagles opened the 2014-15 wrestling season hosting the Clarion Open on November 2 with three Clarion wrestlers in Saturday's lineup earning places including Daniel Sutherland (3rd at 174), Michael Pavasko (4th at 174) and Evan DeLong (4th at 157). On November 15 Clarion participated in the Eastern Michigan duals and lost four dual matches to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (19-12), #19 Northwestern (39-6). Central Michigan (34-6) and Northern Illinois (31-7). Then on November 22, Clarion hosted four-time and defending NCAA D-I National Champion #4 Penn State at Tippin Gym and lost a 44-0 decision in front of 2,875 fans. On November 30 the Golden Eagles traveled to #17 Rider and lost a 38-3 decision to the Broncs and a 25-13 loss to Penn.

Clarion placed 5th at the PSAC Championships on December 6th at Bloomsburg with Evan Daley finishing second and Slade Horner, Mike Pavasko and Ryan Darch finishing third, while losing a week later at #10 ranked Edinboro 32-6.

Clarion's lineup for Ohio University will likely be: Hunter Jones (5-6; So. New Rochelle, N.Y.) or Seth Carr (8-13; R-Fr. McDonald/South Fayette) at 125, Joel Rosko (3-10; Fr. Campbell, N.Y.) at 133; Sam Sherlock (7-12; Sr. West Mifflin) at 141; Brodie Zacherl (13-14; Fr. Brookville, Pa.) at 149; Evan DeLong (11-15; Fr. Kane) at 157; Kyle Bradock (3-10; Sr. Beaver Falls/Blackhawk) at 165; Michael Pavasko (14-10; Jr. Munhall/Steel Valley) at 174; Daniel Sutherland (13-13; Sr. N.             Eastern Michigan is led by first year head coach David Bolyard, who has the Eagles out to a 5-3 dual meet record and an o-1 slate in the MAC conference.

Wins have come over SIUE (22-18), Lock Haven (25-13), Bloomsburg (30-6), Cal Poly (30-7) and Drexel (22-19). Losses have come against Northwestern (26-6), Princeton (26-11) and UNI (24-15).

Although the Eagles do not have a wrestler ranked in the top 20, they have a very solid lineup. That lineup will likely have Blake Caudill (5-8) at 125, Vince Pizzuto (7-9) at 133, Michael Shaw (7-8) at 141, Nicholas Barber (7-7) at 149, Brandon Zeerip (13-7) at 157, Devan Mary (7-11) at 165, Austin Geerlings (6-9) at 174, Mike Curby (5-12) at 184, Anthony Abro (13-7) at 197 and Gage Hutchison (8-9) at 285.
