Delrika Jones-Carey had 13 points and
Jen Straw came off the bench to add 12, but Charleston had big second and third quarters and defeated the Golden Eagles 78-65 at the West Virginia State Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Clarion dropped to 0-2 on the season, while Charleston is now 1-1. Clarion opens PSAC-West play on Wednesday when the Eagles host Gannon at 5:30pm.
Clarion was down 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, but a jumper by Jones-Carey gave the Eagles a 16-15 to open the second quarter. With the score tied at 26, Charleston went on a 9-pound run to take a 35-26 advantage and led at halftime by a score of 38-27.
Charleston outscored the Eagles 23-15 in the third quarter to build a 19-point lead – 61-42, and won 78-65.
Delrika Jones-Carey had 13 points and 6 rebounds, while
Jen Straw came off the bench to collect 12 points, rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks.
Tania Holmes added 9 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.
Chyress Lockhart had 20 tallies t lead Charleston.
