Marissa Robertson had 13 kills,
Kaley Pittsley had 38 set assists, and
Morgan Seybold had 27 digs as the Clarion Golden Eagles defeated Gannon Golden Knights in the first round of the PSAC Volleyball playoffs Tuesday night at Tippin Gymnasium.
With the win Clarion's record improves to 20-15 with the win and with the loss Gannon final record for the season was 22-10. Clarion will advance to the PSAC seminfals on Friday night at Pitt-Johnstown, who defeated Lock Haven tonight by a 3-0 score.
In the first set of the match the game Clarion jumped out to a 15-9 lead, but Gannon came back to tie the game at 26. Then behind kills from
Abbey Cox and
Taylor Braunagel the Golden Eagles were able to take the first set 28-26.
Next, in the second set the Golden Eagles got out to a lead of 16-8, but once again Gannon came roaring back to tie the game at 20. Once again Clarion was able to clinch the set behind kills from Robertson and Braunagel to win the set by a score of 25-23.Â
Then in the final set of the match it was more of the same. Â The Golden Eagles took a 15-9 lead and once again Gannon came back and was able to tie the game at 22. The behind kills from Braunagel, Robertson, and Cox Clarion was able to win the third set of the game by a score of 25-23.Â
The Golden Eagles also received key contributions from
Mackenzie Biggs who had 12 kills,
Gabrielle Olson and Braunagel who had 9 kills each, and Cox who added 5 kills.
Clarion also received key defensive contributions from
Morgan Herold who had 9 digs and
Catherine Ferragonio who added 8 digs. Â
