EAGLES RUN PAST GANNON 67-46

Rob Agurs

(Clarion, Pa.): Clarion's Rob Agurs scored 12 points, handed out 9 assists, hauled in 7 rebounds and made 3 steals leading the Golden Eagles to a 67-46 win over Gannon at Waldo S. Tippin Gym on Wednesday night.

The Golden Eagles raised their record to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC-West, while Gannon dropped to 0-1 overall and in the West.

Clarion led 25-21 at halftime, but came out in the second half and outscored the Knights 21-6 in the first 9 minutes and never looked back. With Clarion holding a 5-point lead (31-26), Clarion went on a 15-1 run to open up a 48-27 advantage.

Tim Gill opened up the run with a lay-up, BJ Andrews hit a three, Rob Agurs a layup, Justin Dobbs a lay-up and four points from De'Ondre Terrell gave Clarion a 44-27 lead. Akeem Williams and Agurs scored back-to-back buckets and the Eagles were ahead 48-27. The game was never close again.

"I thought our defense was the real key tonight," said second year head coach Marcess Williams. "It was team defense – we held them to 26% from the floor and contested every shot. That defense really ignited our offense, especially the first ten minutes of the second half. It was a really good team win."

Following Agurs in the scoring were BJ Andrews and Justin Dobbs with 15 each, De'Ondre Terrell had 9 and Tim Gill finished with 8 points. Cameron Grumley handed out 7 assists and also had 3 steals.

Clarion hosts Cheyney on Saturday afternoon at 3pm.
