(CLARION, PA.): Clarion put five players in double figures, led by
BJ Andrews with 19 points, and the Golden Eagles defeated visiting Millersville 79-68 at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium on Sunday.
Clarion raised its overall record to 3-2 and 3-0 in the PSAC-West, while Millersville dropped to 2-2 and 2-1 in the PSAC-Eastern Division. Clarion will travel to Davis & Elkins on Wednesday for its next game.
Clarion bolted to a 15-point halftime lead as
BJ Andrews hit a three pointer with 24-seconds left before halftime and the lead stood at 40-25 for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles started the second half on fire and upped the lead to 22 at 49-27 when
Tim Gill made an old-fashioned three-point play at 16:38.
Millersville fought their way back into the game and cut the lead to 8 points, 69-61, when Ricky Mosely hit two free throws with 5:33 remaining.
Tim Gill's two free throws with 3:50 left gave Clarion a 75-64 lead and the Eagles took the win from there.
Clarion shot 36/9% from the floor (24 of 65) and 67.6 % from the free throw line (23 of 34).
Andrews posted 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, while Gill added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Also in double figures were
Rob Agurs, De'Ondre Terrell and Larry Johnson Jr. with 11 points each. Agurs led all players with 16 rebounds, a career high, and added 3 assists and 3 steals.
Mosely had 17 points for Milersville.
