Game Recap: Basketball (Men's) |

BIG RUN LEADS MBB TO DOUBLE-DIGIT WIN OVER SETON HILL

CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion men's basketball team rallied from a huge first half deficit to record a double-digit conference win as the Golden Eagles beat Seton Hill 81-71 at Tippin Gymnasium on Wednesday.  The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Clarion, who improves to 7-5 overall and 5-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference (PSAC) action.

The story of the game was the Golden Eagles' ability to bounce back from an early hole.  Clarion started the game on a 2-of-13 cold streak from the floor as the Griffins held a 27-6 lead with 9:53 to play in the first half.  The Golden Eagles found their stride from there, though, outscoring Seton Hill 26-7 the rest of the half and by a 39-15 mark at the first media timeout of the second half.

Clarion finished the game 31-of-59 from the field for a 52.5 field goal percentage, meaning they made 29 of their final 46 shots in the game.  The Golden Eagles controlled the glass to the tune of a 37-23 rebounding advantage, including a 12-5 mark in offensive rebounds.  The Clarion bench was superb in contributing 29 points to Seton Hill's 10 bench points.

BJ Andrews extended his streak of consecutive double-digit scoring performance to 12 games with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field.  Andre' Anthony had 14 points to go with six assists and three steals, and Rob Agurs had 13 points and six boards.  Cameron Grumley provided a spark off the bench with 12 point, and Tim Gill came just one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Seton Hill took a 27-6 lead on a pair of free throws by Kameron Taylor, but those would be their last points for more than two minutes as the Golden Eagles cut into the lead.  Clarion held the Griffins without a field goal from the 7:20 mark of the first half until there was just 2:53 remaining, cutting the lead to 29-25 on a jumper by Anthony before the Griffins' Noah Davis responded with a three-pointer.  Anthony scored on a lay-up with 1:37 remaining in the half to cut it to 34-30, and De'Ondre Terrell made a jumper with three seconds left to make it a one-possession game at the half.

The Golden Eagles took the lead for good just 1:18 into the second half when Andrews recorded an old-fashioned three-point play, drawing contact from Brandon Alston on a make and draining the free throw to pull ahead 37-36.  Grumley scored on a fast break after Anthony swiped the ball from Trevor Blondin and kicked it ahead for the make, and Andrews made it a 10-point game with two free throws at the 10:01 mark.

The closest the Griffins got the rest of the way came with 6:27 to play when they capped an 8-0 run to cut the Clarion lead to 65-62.  The Golden Eagles responded with a 6-0 run of their own, though, going ahead 71-62 on a transition bucket from Agurs.  Anthony scored in the paint with 1:37 to play to push the lead to double-digits again and there it would remain as Clarion held on for the win.
