#13 PITT WRESTLERS BLANK CLARION 51-0
(PITTSBURGH, PA.): #13 ranked Pitt posted 7 falls on Sunday afternoon to defeat Clarion 51-0 in an NCAA Division I dual meet at Fitzgerald Field House.
Clarion dropped to 1-15 on the season, while #13 rated Pittsburgh raised its record to 8-5.
The dual meet started at 125 pounds and Clarion's
Hunter Jones (So. New Rochelle, N.Y.) was pinned by Dom Forys at 1:42, then
Matt Liggett (Fr. Chardon, Ohio) was pinned by Nick Zanetta at 3:43 and the Panthers led 12-0.
Sam Sherlock (Sr. West Mifflin), who returned to the lineup after being out several weeks with an injury, came out like a house on fire taking down Ben Ross and then slapping a cradle on him midway through the first period at 141 for a 5-0 lead. Ross appeared to be pinned several times and was on his back for at least 45-seconds, but he fought his way out and turned the tables to tie the bout 5-5 at the end of the first. In the second Ross cradled Sherlock and won by fall at 4:27 for an 18-0 Panther advantage.
Brodie Zacherl (Fr. Brookville) was pinned by #20 Mike Racciato at 149-pounds at 0:59,
and Evan DeLong (Fr. Kane) was pinned by Ronnie Garbinsky at 157 at 3:56 and Pitt had an insurmountable 30-0 lead.
Slade Horner (Jr. Ridgway) wrestled a quality match but lost 5-2 to Troy Reaghard at 165,
Mike Pavasko (Munhall/Steel Valley) was pinned by #6 Tyler Wilps at 174 at 5:47,
Daniel Sutherland (Sr. No. Bellmore, N.Y.) lost by fall at 2:42 against #2 rated Max Thomusseitt 184,
Ryan Darch (Sr. Batavia, N.Y.) also wrestled a quality in losing 6-2 to #20 Nick Bonaccorsi at 197 and
Joshua Davis (Jr. Freehold, N.J.) lost 1-0 at 285 against Ryan Solomon.
The Golden Eagles last dual meet of the year is on Friday, February 13 at Oklahoma State. The EWL Championships will by hosted at Rider University on March 7.
CLARION NOTES: At the Edinboro Open on Saturday, Clarion's
Brock Zacherl and
Dustin Conti, wrestling unattached, earned high places… Zacherl was second at the Edinboro Open at 141 pounds, while Conti was 4
th at 197 pounds.
