BASEBALL SWEPT IN PSAC WEST OPENING DOUBLEHEADER BY IUP

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Clarion University baseball team was swept in its PSAC West opener against IUP dropping decisions of 3-1 and 4-1 to the Crimson Hawks Sunday afternoon at Consol Energy Park in Washington, Pa.

In Game One, IUP plated one run in the first and two more in the third while the Golden Eagles lone run came in the fourth inning when Mike Lockhart walked moved to second on an error and scored on a Matt Kamenicky base hit.

The second game saw Clarion score a run in the second when Ben Thomas walked with two outs, moved to second when Joe Holmberg was hit by a pitch and scored on a single to center by Drew Pirritano.

IUP picked up single runs in the first, second, third and sixth innings.

Tyler Deval took the loss in Game One, while Kane McCall was the loser in Game Two.

Derek Danver reached base three times in the opener singling, getting hit by a pitch and reaching on an error. Thomas also had a pinch-hit single.

In Game Two Clarion had two hits, Pirritano's run-scoring single and a fourth-inning single by Joey Lopez.

Clarion (1-6, 0-2 PSAC West) is scheduled to return to action Friday at home against Mercyhurst. But chances of the game being moved because of field conditions is currently highly likely.
