SOFTBALL'S FIRST INDOOR GAMES END WITH DH SWEEP BY UPJ

The Golden Eagles fell 5-4 in nine innings in game one and then lost game two 3-2.

In the first game, Clarion trailed 3-1 going to the seventh but took a 4-3 lead on a big error by the Lady Cats that scored three runs.

With Casey Wilcox (single) and Megan Anderson (fielder's choice) on first and second, Christina Tressler hit a ball to second base that turned into a four-base error that gave the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game.

But Pitt-Johnstown tied the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh off Paige Baker and then tagged Baker for the game-winning run in the ninth.

Baker went two innings allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three. Two of the three walks scored.

Shawnna Crago started and went four innings allowing three runs on three hits and five walks while striking out three. Chelsea Zola then threw two scoreless innings giving up one hit and walk.

Anderson led Clarion's offense with pair of hits in four at bats including a double while also scoring a run and driving in a run.

The second game saw the Golden Eagles trail 1-0 going to the fifth but tie the game in the fifth when Kayla Henderson scored on a Taylor Powell single.

But Pitt-Johnstown scored twice in the bottom of the inning and a comeback attempt in the seventh came up a run short for Clarion despite Audrey Hummel, pinch running for Casey Wilcox, crossing home plate in the inning on a Powell single.

Taylor Powell had three hits in the contest for the Golden Eagles.

Sarah Gossard started and went the first four innings giving up one run on four hit while striking out three, Zola took the loss giving up two runs in the fifth on three hits and striking out one and Baker threw a scoreless sixth with a strike out.

The games were played indoors at the Iron Horse Complex and are believed to be the first-ever indoor games for the Golden Eagles, who are 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC West.

Clarion returns to action with a pair of games at Seton Hill Sunday.
