Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Clarion University softball team started the 2015 season, its first under first-year head coach Cheryl Peterson, with three losses on Sunday at the Shaw Softball Challenge in Wilmington, N.C.

The Golden Eagles dropped an 8-2 decision to Fairmont State, a 16-8 decision to Bowie State and a 1-0 decision to Concord.

Against Fairmont State, Christina Tressler was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Clarion.

"Outside of Chrissy, we struggled at the plate striking out nine times in the game," Peterson said.

The Bowie State contest saw the Golden Eagles jump out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning but the Bulldogs scored 12 runs in the final two innings to pull away in what had been a close game.

"We just weren't able to close the game out," Peterson said. "We used four pitchers in the final two innings but walked four batters and gave up a home run."

The final game of the night, which didn't end until nearly midnight, saw Clarion get a strong pitching performance from Shawnna Crago, who was able to work out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning. But offensively, the Golden Eagles got just two hits including a triple by Taylor Powell.

No other information from Sunday is currently available, Clarion continues play in the Shaw Softball Challenge Monday.
