CLARION, Pa. –The Clarion University athletics department this week donated just over $8,000 to The Cancer Center at Clarion Hospital.
Golden Eagles athletics teams raised the money, which totaled $8,009, throughout the 2014-15 schools year with various fundraisers including the Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams hosting a Flipping for Cancer Event and the women's volleyball and basketball teams holding Breast Cancer Awareness events.
"It's really important for our athletics department to be involved and give back to the community," Clarion athletics events and promotions coordinator
Scott Courtney said. "This is just one of many ways we can do that. We have had a great relationship with the good people at The Cancer Center over the last few years, and we are happy to continue to support the great work they do in our community."
The Cancer Center uses the donation from Clarion Athletics for various support activates for the patients at The Center including helping to offset transportation costs, miscellaneous bills and incidentals.
With the donation, Clarion University athletics has now raised over $23,000 in the past five years alone for The Cancer Center.
