(Clarion, PA) – In the midst of a rainy afternoon at Memorial Stadium, the Clarion Golden Eagles women's soccer club fell to the Ashland Eagles in a nail biter, 1-0.

The loss drops the Golden Eagles to (2-6-1) on the year, while Ashland remains undefeated at (8-0) overall.

The Ashland Eagles jumped out to an early lead thanks to a goal from sophomore Kelsey Mckernan at the 25:54 mark in the first half.  The Golden Eagles defense as well as goalkeeper Krista Mosi kept the other 7 first half Ashland shots out of the net, and kept Clarion in contention.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles just barely missed a few chances to tie the game at 1-1.  A shot from junior Mckenzie Sheesley slid just outside the post with under 15 minutes to play.  On Clarion's next possession, sophomore defender Carlee Freeburg had 2 shot opportunities, one of which was saved by Ashland goalkeeper Courtney Barker, and the other hit off the goalpost and was deflected out of bounds.

The Golden Eagles next match comes at 1 pm on Friday, October 2nd when they travel to face Lock Haven.
