Game Recap: Basketball (Men's) |

RALLY FALLS SHORT AS MBB FALLS AT SHIPPENSBURG

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Rob Agurs went off for a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds but the Clarion men's basketball team was edged on the road on Sunday, as the Golden Eagles fell 79-72 to the Shippensburg Raiders in Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference action.  With the loss Clarion falls to 8-7 overall and 5-4 in conference play.

Agurs was in control over the course of the entire game, notching the game highs in not just scoring and rebounding but also with five blocked shots.  He shot 6-of-16 from the field but was money at the free throw line, going 10-of-13 from the charity stripe.  De'Ondre Terrell ranked second on the team with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

Clarion shot 45.2 percent from the field in the first half but struggled a bit in the second half, going just 39.3 percent for a total of 42.4 percent on the day.  The Raiders led the rebounding battle with a 42-33 edge on the glass and turned that into a 23-4 advantage in second-chance points.

The Golden Eagles took a slim lead early on in the game, pulling to within one point after an Agurs jumper and taking a 9-8 advantage on the next possession after a make from Larry Johnson, Jr.  The Raiders pulled ahead on the next trip down the floor, but Clarion cut the deficit to two points when BJ Andrews made a jumper to make it 19-17.  Andrews cut into the Shippensburg lead again when he made it 21-19 on a jumper, but the Raiders went on a 12-2 run to go ahead and led 42-34 at the halftime break.

Shippensburg led by as many as 12 points in the second half, going ahead 52-40 on a layup by Clay Conner, but Agurs cut the deficit to two possession with two free throws at the 14:45 mark.  Terrell made it just 59-53 with a layup at the 9:01 mark, and it was just a five-point game after Terrell drilled a three-pointer at the 8:16 mark.

Agurs scored a transition layup with 3:28 remaining to cut the lead to two points, slashing to the hoop and drawing contact from Conner to make it just 67-65.  Terrell made a layup on the next possession to keep it a two-point game, but the Raiders played solidly the rest of the way to seal the victory.
