SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Clarion women's basketball team controlled action in the second half and
Tania Holmes became the newest member of the Golden Eagles' 1,000-Point club, but it was not enough for a victory as the Golden Eagles fell 72-56 at Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference action. Clarion falls to 5-10 overall, 5-4 in PSAC play on the season.
Â
Holmes needed only three points entering the game against the Raiders and got it with just seconds remaining in the first half, making a three-pointer with 24 ticks of the clock remaining. She finished with 11 points on the afternoon.Â

Â
The first quarter was fairly close throughout, never going further than three possessions for the duration.Â
Jordan Bekelja pulled the Golden Eagles to within two makes with a free throw at the 1:28 mark, making it 17-12, but Kristin McGeough scored in transition on the next possession to put the Raiders ahead 19-12 at the break. Shippensburg came out on top in the second quarter as well, outscoring the Golden Eagles 20-9 to enter halftime ahead 39-21.
Â

Â
Polite got the lead down to 11 points early in fourth quarter, making a trey off a feed from Holmes to make it 57-46. Holmes kept the Golden Eagles within striking distance with a layup at the 7:24 mark of the fourth quarter, and Jones-Carey scored on a drive with 4:50 remaining to cut the lead to 63-52. The Raiders righted the ship, however, and tacked on to take the win.
