CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion women's soccer team squared off against a PSAC opponent in less than ideal weather conditions, and the Golden Eagles fell by a 3-0 score to Mansfield at Memorial Stadium. Clarion (2-8-2, 2-7-1 PSAC) will head on the road for the next two games before returning home to face Slippery Rock on Oct. 11.
Â
Clarion finished with six total shots on net, including five in the first period, but were unable to sneak one past the keeper as the Mountaineers claimed the win.Â
Â
Mansfield's Delaney Meadows scored a pair of goals in the first half, giving the Mountaineers the only tallies they needed in the contest. The first came on a lead pass from Caitlyn McNichol, with Meadows taking the feed and firing it into the lower left-hand corner past goalkeeper
Krista Mosi in the 11th minute. The second came when she recovered a shot and deflection off Mosi at the top of the box in the 19th minute; she settled the ball and sent it to the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Â
The best Clarion opportunity in the first half came when
Charlotte Allen redirected a shot on goalkeeper Rachel Fox in the 44th minute.Â
Marina Kelly lined a sharp cross through the box to Allen, who slid into the ball but could not sneak it past Fox. Kelly also had multiple opportunities on net, firing shots from long range but she was unable to pick the corner.
Â
Eleni Gebbia scored on a play off a throw-in early in the second half, bending a shot into the corner to make it 3-0. Â
