Volleyball's Win Streak Snapped at West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Clarion volleyball team saw its four-match win streak snapped on the road on Saturday, as the Golden Eagles fell 3-0 (14-25, 21-25, 21-25) to the West Chester Golden Rams in a PSAC match.  Clarion (9-7, 3-1 PSAC) will return home for a pair of matches at Tippin Gymnasium next weekend.

Mackenzie Biggs had a team-high 10 kills on 26 swings, committing just three errors for a .269 hitting percentage.  Taylor Braunagel added seven kills, while Marissa Robertson had five kills and seven digs.  Catherine Ferragonio had a team-high 11 digs while Biggs and Olivia Olson each added three blocks.

The Golden Rams broke a 5-5 tie early in the first set and took a 9-5 lead after a block by Abbie Dischert and Allie Duffy.  West Chester cruised to a 25-14 win in the first set but the Golden Eagles were more equal to the task in the second.  Clarion took a 6-2 lead off a service ace by Ferragonio, and the lead increased to 10-5 after a kill by Braunagel.

West Chester tied it at 13-all on a solo block by Victoria Cruciani, but Braunagel fired back and tied it at 18-18 on a kill.  That was the last time it was tied, however, as the Golden Rams went on a 7-3 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

West Chester took a 14-11 lead in the third set off a kill by Allie Duffy, but Lauryn Driscoll pulled Clarion to within 19-16 with a kill of her own, capping a 3-0 run in the process.  The Golden Eagles pulled to within one point on an error by Duffy, but the Golden Rams scored the final three points of the match to take the win.
