Volleyball Edged Out by Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Clarion volleyball team jumped out to a 2-1 lead on the road, but the Golden Eagles were able to hold off a red-hot Edinboro team in falling 3-2 (26-24, 23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 7-15) to the Fighting scots on Friday night.  Clarion (11-9, 5-3 PSAC) will travel to take on Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon.
 
Olivia Olson had a season-best match, finishing with 14 kills on 25 swings with just one error for a .520 attack percentage against the Fighting Scots.   Lauryn Driscoll was another middle that had a strong match, with the sophomore finishing with 12 kills on 17 swings for a .529 hitting percentage.  Mackenzie Biggs rounded out the efficient offensive performances for the Golden Eagles, hitting .444 with 13 kills on the evening. 
 
Defensively, Marissa Roberston recorded her second double-double of the year with 11 kills and a match-high 20 digs against the Fighting Scots.  Catherine Ferragonio finished just behind her with 17, a total that matched the best of any Edinboro player as well.  Ashley Poling and Morgan Herold both also contributed double-digit digs.
 
Both teams had stellar offensive nights, with Clarion hitting .317 as a team and Edinboro hitting .310 cumulatively.  The Golden Eagles had the far better night in the back row, digging out 78 balls to Edinboro's 55, but the Fighting Scots had 9.0 team blocks compared to Clarion's 7.0.  Olson had a team-high four blocks for Clarion. 
 
Every set until the fifth was fairly close, with none being decided by more than four points.  Clarion took the first set 26-24 and edged the Fighting Scots by a 25-21 score in the third set, but Edinboro won the fourth 25-23 after trailing by an 18-16 score.  They took the fifth set handily, winning 15-7.
