Evans rushes for 112 yards in loss to IUP

INDIANA, Pa. – The Clarion football team lost to Indiana University of Pennsylvania by a final score of 42-17 Saturday afternoon at Frank Cignetti Field.  The Golden Eagles move to 2-6 on the season, including 1-4 in the PSAC.  The Blue and Gold return to action next Saturday when they play host to Slippery Rock at Memorial Stadium.

Kyle Evans led the way offensively for the Golden Eagles, rushing for 112 yards and a touchdown.  Quarterback Jeff Clemens was 11 for 32 for 125 yards and a touchdown under center.

Jacob Craig paved the way for the Eagles on defense, finishing with a team-high 16 tackles, including five solo tackles.  Tyrone Archie finished with five tackles, including two sacks.

The first half was a slog for both teams, with cold temperatures and some intense rain making it difficult to move the ball through the air.  IUP's Chris Temple opened the scoring on a 28-yard dash around the right edge to put the Crimson Hawks up 7-0 five minutes into the first quarter.

Clarion would answer back with a big run of their own, however.  With just over two minutes two play in the first quarter, Clarion's offensive line blew open a massive hole in the IUP defense, allowing Kyle Evans to burst through with speed.  Evans made a number of nice cuts en route to taking the 68 yard run to the house for the Golden Eagles touchdown.

Clarion would widen its lead late in the second quarter when Clemens fired a perfect strike over the middle to wide out Seneca Williams for a 13-yard touchdown, giving the Eagles the lead and all the momentum going into the locker rooms at halftime.

The Crimson Hawks would regain control in the second half, however.  Lenny Williams connected with Allen Wright on a 68 yard touchdown strike to draw even with the Eagles.

Following a Phil Esposito field goal on the following possession, Williams would tuck the ball on his own and scamper for a six-yard touch down run to put IUP ahead 21-17, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game.
