CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion football team gave a rousing a sendoff to its seniors but was unable to overcome a tough West Chester team on Saturday, falling 37-10 to the Golden Rams at Memorial Stadium.  The Golden Eagles finish the season with a 4-7 overall record, including a 3-4 mark in PSAC West play.

Kevin Genevro became just the third player in program history to record more than 1,000 career receiving yards, posting seven catches for 183 yards and a 78-yard touchdown against the Golden Rams.  Genevro finished the year with 1,100 receiving yards, the second-highest total in program history, and his 23 career receiving touchdowns are tied for third on the all-time list.

The hard-nosed Golden Ram defense kept Clarion in check for much of the game, holding the Golden Eagles to 348 offensive yards and forcing five turnovers on the afternoon.  Clarion moved the ball well otherwise, with quarterback
Connor Simmons throwing for 275 yards and
Delrece Williams rushing for 67 yards on 14 carries.

West Chester led the Golden Eagles 17-0 at the halftime break but Clarion responded with a score on the first drive of the third quarter.  Simmons orchestrated a 12-play, 57-yard response to the Golden Rams that included a 13-yard strike to Genevro on 3rd-and-5 from the West Chester 42.  An apparent touchdown on 1st-and-10 from the 19-yard-line was called back
Clay Byerly was whistled for offensive pass interference, but Clarion went right back at it to get into field goal range.  On 2nd-and-25 Simmons hit Genevro on the sideline for 16 yards to the West Chester 18, and two plays later
Phil Esposito booted a 35-yard field goal to make it 17-3.

The lead reached three touchdowns by the end of the third quarter with the Golden Rams taking a 24-3 lead, and West Chester eventually took a 31-3 lead on a Mike Class touchdown run with 13:46 left to play.  The big play the Golden Eagles had been looking for all game finally came through, though, with Simmons lobbing a long ball to Genevro on 2nd-and-14 from the Clarion 22.  Genevro stiff-armed a tackler and sprinted down the right sideline for a 78-yard score that put him firmly over 100 yards for the game and 1,000 yards on the season.

Defensively Clarion was led by senior cornerback
Adam Lynch, who recorded a game-high 11 tackles and a half-sack that was shared by
Tyrone Archie.  Freshman
Saif Khan had a strong day with six tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and a sack.
