WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Clarion wrestling team endured a tough day to open their dual match season, falling 28-12 to Campbell and 27-11 to hosting American in a pair of matches on Sunday.  Clarion (0-2) will return home to host Eastern Michigan on Friday, Nov. 18.
 
Dom Rigous has arguably the strongest afternoon for the Golden Eagles on Sunday, winning once by fall and later by major decision to account for 10 team points on the day.  In his first action of the season at 174 pounds he pinned Campbell's Alex Herringshaw halfway through the second period, taking the win by fall at the 3:53 into the match.  Rigous was firmly in control of his second match of the day as well, defeating American's Joe Salvi 12-0 for a major decision.
 
Also winning twice for Clarion on Sunday was Brock Zacherl (141), who earned a pair of wins by decision.  He started the day with a high-scoring affair against Campbell's Josh Heil, defeating him 10-4 for the decision.  Zacherl's second match of the day was much closer, with him holding on for a 5-3 decision over American's Jack Mutchnik.
 
The Camels won the early match by taking seven of the 10 matches on the mats, with Rigous and Zacherl accounting for two of Clarion's wins in the early going.  Dustin Conti (197) was the third Golden Eagle to win against Campbell, defeating Willie Bivens by an 8-6 score.  Evan DeLong (165) was the other Clarion wrestler to claim a win on Sunday, defeating American's Michael Eckhart in a major decision.  DeLong cruised to a 13-5 win to cut American's team lead to 14-7, and Rigous's major decision over Salvi made it just 14-11.  The Eagles won the final three matches, though, to seal the win.
