Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Clarion softball team engaged in a pitcher's duel on Thursday, but the Golden Eagles were bested by Millersville as the Marauders won a 1-0 decision in Myrtle Beach. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 2-6 overall on the season.
Â
Rachel Hoffman pitched more than well enough for the victory, tossing six innings of four-hit, one run ball on the afternoon. She struck out seven Marauders in her six innings, but a passed ball and a wild pitch in the second inning turned out to be the difference. Kelsey Campbell scored from third on the miscue to give Millersville a 1-0 lead, and the Marauders made the lead hold up to take the win.
Â
The best Clarion threat of the day came in the fifth inning after
Paige Baker led the inning off with a single.Â
Christina Tressler followed her with a walk, and
Cassidy Runyan moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt. The Golden Eagles had two runners in scoring position with one out but they were unable to convert as
Kiersten Gromley and
Taylor Nonnenberg both flied out to end the inning.
Â
The Golden Eagles had just three hits on the afternoon, with
Marissa Peterson, Baker and Tressler each getting knocks.Â
