Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SALEM, Va. – The Clarion softball team ran into a tough day on the diamond on Saturday, with the Golden Eagles falling by a 4-1 score to Davis & Elkins in the early game and 5-2 to East Stroudsburg in the late game.  With the losses, the Golden Eagles fall to 2-10 overall.

The Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead to open the game with the Warriors, manufacturing a run with good base running and opportunistic hitting.  Taylor Nonnenberg opened the first with a walk and advanced to second on an error that also brought Cassidy Runyan aboard.  Nonnenberg reached third on a passed ball, and Christina Tressler hit a ball to the outfield with one out to bring her home.

Paige Baker added another run in the next at-bat, bringing up Runyan with a single to put Clarion ahead 2-0.  The Warriors countered with a two-RBI double with no outs in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game, and scored the go-ahead run on a solo home run from Cristina Coppola in the bottom of the third inning.  Clarion was held to just one more hit and three more baserunners the rest of the way as the Warriors shut them down for the win.

Marissa Peterson took the loss, pitching 6.0 innings while allowing five runs, four of which were earned. Allison Mende picked up the win by pitching the final four innings of relief.  Baker finished 1-of-3 with an RBI, and Wilcox and Peterson also added base hits.

Baker did a good job of keeping the Senators off the board early in the game against Davis & Elkins, shutting them down for the first four innings of action.  This gave the Golden Eagles the chance to take an early 1-0 lead, starting with a two-out double from Wilcox in the Clarion half of the fourth.  Tressler extended the inning with a single, and Wilcox eventually came around to score when Baker reached on an error.

Taylor Norton broke the drought for the Senators in the fifth, scoring Kayla Whoolery on an RBI double.  Katlyn Huffman drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the sixth, and Davis & Elkins tacked on two runs in the seventh to seal the win.

Baker took the loss after pitching 7.0 innings and allowing four runs, striking out five and walking just one.  Wilcox finished 1-of-3 with a run and an RBI, and Tressler and Peterson both also added hits.
