Box Score SALEM, Va. – The Clarion softball team concluded its stay at the West Virginia Wesleyan Invitational on Sunday morning, falling by a score of 4-3 to Ursuline in an early-morning game. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 2-11 on the season.

The Golden Eagles led for much of the game, taking a 3-1 lead into the seventh inning, but the Arrows came back and took a 4-3 lead in the top of the inning. Clarion put the leadoff runner aboard in the bottom of the inning but was unable to bring her home, falling by one run.

Freshman
Taylor Nonnenberg was a standout at the plate, going 2-of-3 with two home runs, two runs scored and three RBIs.Â
Paige Baker went 1-of-2 at the plate and also got the start in the circle, throwing three innings and allowing just one run.Â
Rachel Hoffman suffered the loss, giving up three runs in the seventh inning after pitching three shutout innings of relief before that.

Autumn Babcock got the offense going in the third inning, reaching on an error by the shortstop to lead off. Two batters later Nonnenberg deposited the first pitch she saw over the fence, bombing the home run to put the Golden Eagles ahead 2-1.

Nonnenberg struck again in the bottom of the sixth inning, this time slamming a 3-2 pitch with one out for a solo home run. That put the Golden Eagles ahead 3-1, but the Arrows cut the lead to 3-2 on an RBI double from Alison Porter. Brittany Humbel put Ursuline ahead with a one-out, two-run double before Hoffman retired the next two batters via groundout.

Clarion tried to rally, with Baker leading off the bottom of the seventh with a single.Â
Marissa Peterson tried to sacrifice her over to second with one out, but the Arrows got Baker at second to keep her out of scoring position. Babcock popped up to end the game. Â
