Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. – The Clarion softball team fell in both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday, losing 8-0 to Virginia Union in the early game and 10-2 to Wayne State in the nightcap in games played at the Shaw Challenge. With the losses, the Golden Eagles fall to 1-3 overall on the season.

Casey Wilcox launched her second home run in as many days, hitting a solo clout against the Warriors in the second game to notch the Golden Eagles' first run of the game.Â
Christina Tressler plated the second run of the game against the Warriors as Clarion manufactured a run against Wayne State in the third inning.Â
Marissa Peterson got her second knock of the game, leading off the inning with a single, and advanced to second on a sacrifice from
Taylor Nonnenberg.Â
Paige Baker moved her over to third with a single, and Tressler brought her home with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Wayne State took a 4-0 lead in the first inning and ultimately held on the for the victory in five innings. They tacked on six runs in the third inning to make it 10-1 and controlled the game the rest of the way to win by a 10-2 margin.

The Golden Eagles threatened to score at times in the early game against the Panthers, putting runners in scoring position multiple times but coming up just short in bringing them home.Â
Kiersten Gromley hit a two-out single in the fifth inning, and Peterson reached on an error to put runners on first and second. The inning ended, however, after Nonnenberg grounded out to second base to end the threat

Nonnenberg, Tressler and Gromley all added hits in the first game, with Nonnenberg also recording a steal.Â
Rachel Hoffman was the pitcher of record, taking the loss with six runs allowed in 1.2 innings pitched. Baker lost the decision in the second game, allowing 10 runs in 3.0 innings.
