JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Clarion baseball team returned to the field after a long weather-induced hiatus, falling to Pitt-Johnstown in both ends of a doubleheader by 14-7 and 10-9 scores, respectively.  With the losses, Clarion falls to 4-21 overall, 1-13 in PSAC West play.

The first game was an offensive battle as both teams put up at least a touchdown's worth of runs on the other.Â
Tyler Falk went 2-of-3 with two RBI's and a run scored while leadoff hitter Mitchell Holmberg went 2-of-4 with three runs scored.Â
Tyler Delval got the start and gave up seven runs in taking the loss.

Clarion struck first in the visitor's half of the first inning when Holmberg swatted a leadoff double to right field. Falk came up with two outs and pulled a single to left center, with Holmberg barreling around third and coming home for the run. The Mountain Cats responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning and another four in the bottom of the third to take a 7-1 lead on the Golden Eagles.

The lead reached 11-1 entering the sixth inning but the Golden Eagles clawed back with three runs in the top of the frame to cut into the lead.Â
Brian Laurito and Holmberg led off the inning with back-to-back singles and each advanced a base after a wild pitch.Â
Josh Ponsoll came up with no outs and brought Laurito home on a groundout to second base while Falk came up and scored Holmberg on an RBI double.Â
Mike Lockhart closed out the scoring in the inning with an RBI single to left.

A throwing error brought
Matt Kamenicky home in the top of the seventh and
Josh Ponsoll drove in Laurito with an RBI double in the next at-bat, but despite a three-run outburst in the top of the frame, the Golden Eagles ultimately fell by a 14-7 score to the Mountain Cats in Game 1.

The Mountain Cats drew first blood in the second game but the Golden Eagles quickly took the advantage, going ahead 5-2 after a four-run second inning and tacking on in the third. Six Golden Eagles notched two hits in the nightcap against Pitt-Johnstown while both Holmberg and Lockhart drove in two runs.Â
Doug Conrad got the no-decision after giving up six runs in 3.1 innings;
Sean White came in during the fifth inning and gave up two unearned runs for the loss.

Austin Mike led off the top of the second inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch.Â
Mason McGuire brought him across home with a one-out RBI single to cut the Mountain Cats' lead to 2-1, and Kamenicky tied things up when he scored on an error. Ponsoll put Clarion ahead 3-2 with a sacrifice fly to plate McGuire, and Delval capped the rally with an RBI single to score Holmberg.

Lockhart blasted a solo home run to lead off the third inning to make it 5-2 but the Mountain Cats scored twice in the third and fourth innings to take a 6-5 lead. Lockhart and Kamenicky each drove in runs in the top of the fifth inning to put Clarion ahead 7-6.Â
Tyler Falk tied the game at 8-8 with an RBI single to left in the top of the sixth but the Mountain Cats tacked on two in the home half of the inning to make it 10-8. Holmberg drove a 3-2 pitch up the middle to score Mike and make it 10-9 in the top of the seventh, but Pitt-Johnstown held out for the win.
