Soccer Shuts Out Millersville for Victory

CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion soccer team weathered a second-half push to claim their second win of the season, defeating Millersville 1-0 on a gray, wet day at Memorial Stadium.  The Golden Eagles (2-4-1, 2-3-1 PSAC) continued their stretch of excellent defense at home; they have not allowed a single goal in three home games this year.

Marina Kelly recorded the only tally the Golden Eagles needed in just the 14th minute, posting her third of the year thanks to sustained offensive pressure by the entire team.  Stephanie Lias booted a pass downfield to Aaliyah Odom, who outraced her defender to reach the ball deep and send it into the box to Kelly.  Kelly took control and spun around her defender and sent a shot at net, burying it in the low corner for the goal.

The Golden Eagles used their team speed advantage in the first half to torture the Marauders, with Odom in particular forcing a number of chances with her quickness.   Taylor Starr sprung Odom on a breakaway in the 12th minute with a long lead pass, with Samantha Wolfe diving to her left to just keep the ball out of the net.

Clarion outshot Millersville 6-3 in the first half, with goalkeeper Krista Mosi not facing much in the way of difficult shots.  The Marauders' best opportunity in the first was quashed when Mosi challenged the forward at the net and snatched the ball away. Millersville upped the ante in the second half, firing seven shots on net, but Mosi was up to the task in turning them away at all junctures.
