CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion volleyball team was dominant in their PSAC opener on Friday night, defeating the East Stroudsburg Warriors 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-14) at Tippin Gymnasium.  The Golden Eagles (6-6, 1-0 PSAC) evened their overall record on the season and improved to 3-2 at home.  They will host Kutztown tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Clarion hit a sterling .371 as a team, committing just 11 errors on 81 swings, while East Stroudsburg hit just .041 for the match.  Aces also played a factor in the win, as the Golden Eagles notched six and the Warriors only one.

Taylor Braunagel recorded nine kills and hit .273 on the night, while Mackenzie Biggs added eight kills and hit an impressive .636.  Marissa Robertson added seven kills and seven digs, while Catherine Ferragonio notched a team-high 14 digs.  Leah Vensel and Kaley Pittsley combined for 34 assists.

Braunagel served the Golden Eagles to a long run to open the first set, helping them to score six straight points and take an 8-1 lead.  She teamed with Robertson to block Sam Dunphy and make it 20-8, while Biggs and Lauryn Driscoll blocked Tina Predojevic to force set point.  Biggs hit a roller over the block to take the first set 25-9.

Clarion opened the second set on a 6-2 run, and the Golden Eagles won the race to 15 on a kill by Robertson.  East Stroudsburg pulled to within five points at 20-15, but Biggs increased the distance with another kill.  Olivia Olson provided the second set winner, ripping a kill to make it 25-20.

The third set was close early on, but Biggs notched kills on back-to-back points to take a 6-3 advantage.  Braunagel made it a 10-point edge with a kill at 16-6, and Biggs helped Clarion win the race to 20 with a kill.  Back-to-back errors by the Warriors' Desiree Claxton sealed the win for the Golden Eagles.
