ERIE, Pa. – The Clarion men's swimming & diving team opened the meet with a pool record, but they came up just short in falling 158-128 in a dual meet at Gannon on Friday night. The full team will be back in action on Nov. 3, when the team takes on Shippensburg.
Â
The action started with the Golden Eagles setting a new pool record in the 400 Medley Relay, as the quartet of
Nathan Porter, Josh Thruston,
Robert Hacku and
Joseph Folz recorded a time of 3:33.65. That edged out the previous pool record of 3:33.85 set in 2011 by a team from Canisius.
Â
The first individual event brought excitement as well.Â
Patrick Olivier hit the PSAC qualifying mark in the 1000 Free with an event win, recording a time of 10:22.13. That bested teammate Drew Canter by a wide margin, and topped Gannon's top competitor by more than 25 seconds. Porter came within fractions of a second of setting another pool record in the 200 Free, posting a winning time of 1:44.78.
Â
Thruston hit the PSAC qualifying time with a 59.33 in the 100 Breaststroke, winning the event by nearly three full seconds, while Folz came just a half-second shy of a pool record with his win in the 100 Free. Porter won his final individual event of the night in the 200 Back, posting a time of 1:58.10.
Â
Cary Johns rounded out the scoring for the Golden Eagles by winning both diving events, starting with a 283.12 in the 1m Dive. He finished the night with a 297.30 in the 3m Dive.
