Game Recap: Volleyball |

Volleyball season ends with playoff loss to Gannon

ERIE, Pa – #7 Clarion University lost in four sets to #2 Gannon University on the road Tuesday night in the 1st round of the PSAC women's volleyball tournament.

Clarion entered the PSAC tournament as the #7 seed with an 11-7 league record while defending champion Gannon captured the #2 seed with a 15-3 mark in conference. The Golden Eagles finish their 2017 season with an overall record of 20-12, while the Golden Knights continue their quest to defend their title and move on to the next round with an overall mark of 27-5.

The game was a rematch of an earlier contest this season, in which Gannon won 3-1 in Erie back on October 7th.

On Tuesday, the two teams exchanged leads throughout the first set as both worked to settle into the match.  The Golden Eagles fought back to regain the lead at 17-16 but would ultimately relinquish that lead for good as Gannon rallied back and held on to win the first set 25-20.

In the 2nd set, Gannon led for much of the way en route to winning 25-17 and seemingly taking control of the match. However, with their backs against the wall in the 3rd set, Clarion stormed back in a big way, dominating the 3rd set, 25-18. Freshman Aubry Ohlson slammed home the final point to keep the Golden Eagles season alive and force a fourth set against the defending PSAC champs.

Intensity really picked up in the 4th set, as both teams battled back and forth. Clarion led 10-9 before the Golden Knights stormed back to take an 18-14 lead.  Gannon stayed on the offensive and held on for the 25-18 final, advancing them to the final four of the PSAC tournament.

Junior Olivia Olson had a big night for the Golden Eagles, racking up 12 kills to only 2 errors, while senior Taylor Braunagel closes out her career as Golden Eagle with 11 kills.
