ERIE, Pa – #7 Clarion University lost in four sets to #2 Gannon University on the road Tuesday night in the 1
st round of the PSAC women's volleyball tournament.
Clarion entered the PSAC tournament as the #7 seed with an 11-7 league record while defending champion Gannon captured the #2 seed with a 15-3 mark in conference. The Golden Eagles finish their 2017 season with an overall record of 20-12, while the Golden Knights continue their quest to defend their title and move on to the next round with an overall mark of 27-5.
The game was a rematch of an earlier contest this season, in which Gannon won 3-1 in Erie back on October 7
th.
On Tuesday, the two teams exchanged leads throughout the first set as both worked to settle into the match. The Golden Eagles fought back to regain the lead at 17-16 but would ultimately relinquish that lead for good as Gannon rallied back and held on to win the first set 25-20.
In the 2
nd set, Gannon led for much of the way en route to winning 25-17 and seemingly taking control of the match. However, with their backs against the wall in the 3
rd set, Clarion stormed back in a big way, dominating the 3
rd set, 25-18. Freshman Aubry Ohlson slammed home the final point to keep the Golden Eagles season alive and force a fourth set against the defending PSAC champs.
Intensity really picked up in the 4
th set, as both teams battled back and forth. Clarion led 10-9 before the Golden Knights stormed back to take an 18-14 lead. Gannon stayed on the offensive and held on for the 25-18 final, advancing them to the final four of the PSAC tournament.

Olivia Olson had a big night for the Golden Eagles, racking up 12 kills to only 2 errors, while senior
Taylor Braunagel closes out her career as Golden Eagle with 11 kills.
