SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The little things made the difference on Friday night as the Clarion men's swimming team held on for a dual meet win, beating Shippensburg 105-100. The Golden Eagles will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at Carnegie Mellon.
Â
Clarion built up a significant lead going into the final race of the night, weathering a late push by the Raiders to hold on for the win. One of the key moments came during the 100 Breaststroke race, when
Joshua Thruston and
Aaron Cooper finished 1-2 to give the Golden Eagles 13 team points. That essentially clinched the meet for Clarion as Shippensburg was unable to come back in the 200 Free Relay at the end of the night.
Â
The Golden Eagles opened the night with a win in the 200 Medley Relay, as the grouping of
Ben Spencer, Thruston,
Robert Hacku and
Tate Swanson raced out to a 1:39.63 result.Â
Nathan Porter would be the next Clarion swimmer to claim a win on the night, taking the title in the 200 Free with a time of 1:47.79.Â
Spencer followed that up with a 1:59.40, and
Joseph Folz won the 100 Free to put Clarion in the driver's seat. Spencer added another win with a victory in the 100 Back, setting the stage for Thruston and Cooper to clinch the meet in the 100 Breastroke.
