WILSON, Nc. - The Clarion University baseball team defeated Kutztown University Saturday evening by a final score of 10-7 at Fleming Stadium. The win moves the Golden Eagles to 2-2 on the season. The Blue and Gold return to action tomorrow when they take on Fairmont State at 3:30.
Clarion managed to strike first in this one after a
John Finke single drove home
Tyler Falk from second base to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. The Blue and Gold managed to tack on a few more in the bottom of the third when Falk crushed a towering double to the center field wall that drove in Joe Lopez and
Mitch Holmberg to make it 3-0.
The Golden Bears would strike back, however, earning a run off of starting pitcher
Kane McCall in the top of the fourth when Alec O'dell reached on a single and eventually scored on a fielders choice. They would add runs in the fourth and fifth to draw even at three apiece.
Clarion managed to blow the game wide open in the seventh thanks to some heads-up base running by and a number of unfortunate errors by the Golden Bears.
Dillon Wolbert took home on a wild pitch with the bases loaded, and two batters later
Tyler Falk was intentionally walked to juice the bases again. Another walk, this one unintentional, scored Holmberg.
A
Garrett Goslaw single drove in the final pair of runs before
Jay Moog would take teh mound to close things out and secure the win.
