WILSON, Nc. - The Clarion University baseball team fell to Lock Haven by a final score of 12-2 Tuesday evening at Fleming Stadium. The loss moves the Golden Eagles to 3-5 on the season. The Blue and Gold return to action Thursday afternoon for another showdown with Lock Haven, the final game of their spring break road trip.
LHU came out of the gates firing, smacking four hits including three doubles in the bottom of the first inning to grab an early 3-0 lead over the Golden Eagles. Clarion would answer with a run in the top of the second as
John Finke scored from second on a wild pitch after reaching on a single.
However Lock Haven would add another five runs in the second, including a two-run blast over the left-field wall from first-basemen Kolby Dehaas that gave Lock Haven a commanding 8-1 stranglehold on the game, which they would continue to add to over the last six frames.
Offensively, Joe Lopez and
Mitch Holmberg led the way for CU, each-going 2-4 at the dish on the afternoon. Freshman Phil Goth went one inning and gave up seven hits in his first career start on the bump for the Golden Eagles.
