LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Clarion University baseball team split a pair of decisions with the Lock Haven Eagles Wednesday afternoon, dropping game one by a score of 7-5 and winning game two 4-2. The win and loss moves the Golden Eagles to 4-11 on the season (0-4 PSAC). The Blue and Gold return to action Friday when they head to California, Pa. for a double-header with the Vulcans.
Game one started out with a bang, as both squads traded off four-run first innings. CU drew first blood when
Garrett Goslaw managed to draw a bases-loaded walk to put a run across the plate for the Golden Eagles.
John Finke grounded to short but managed to drive in another run one at-bat later to go up 2-0, and by the third out of the game Clarion enjoyed a 4-0 cushion.
Lock Haven battled back hard, scoring four runs off of three hits in the bottom of the second to even things up. They would tack on three-more in the fourth to make it 7-5, and while Clarion would continue to battle, LHU held on for the win.
The Golden Eagles would keep those bats rolling right into game two, and coupled with some heads-up base-running managed to snag an early lead once again.
Finke again managed to reach on an error which scored
Mitch Holmberg from second before
Matt Kamenicky crushed an RBI single to left-field to increase the lead to 2-0.
Clarion used a slew of pitchers on the day, however the unit got the job done, allowing just five hits on the afternoon. Clarion added a pair of runs in the fourth for good measure and shut it down the rest of the game to cruise to a 4-2 victory.
