INDIANA, Pa: On day three of the Crimson Hawk Invitational, the Clarion Golden Eagles were victorious over Ursuline, winning 3-0 in straight sets.
Clarion finishes the weekend at 3-1, with their only blemish coming from #6 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic in the opener on Thursday.
On Saturday, both teams were a little slow out of the gate, with a combined 20 attack errors between the teams in set one. However, Clarion persevered in a set that went back and forth, finally pulling away late to win set one, 25-20.
In the second set, Ursuline had the Golden Eagles at set point, leading 24-22, before Clarion sophomore
Julia Holden (Brunswick, Ohio, Brunswick) drove home three straight kills to regain the lead at 25-24. An ensuing attack error by Ursuline gave Clarion the 26-24 win in set two.
Clarion jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in set three, and never relinquished the lead, winning 25-21 to take the match in straight sets.
Senior
Taylor Braunagel (Milford, Pa., Delaware Valley) led with 15 kills, while
Kaitlyn Glaser (Solon, Ohio, Solon) had a game-high 5 blocks. Setter
Leah Vensel (Erie, Pa., McDowell) posted 34 assists while
Catherine Ferragonio (Irwin, Pa., Norwin) recorded 24 digs, both game highs.
Clarion will return to action next weekend when they travel to Indianapolis, Indiana with competition slated against Davenport & Grand Valley State on Friday and Saginaw Valley State and Stonehill on Saturday.
