Golden Eagles Grind Down The Rock, 3-0

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Clarion volleyball team rebounded on Saturday afternoon with a three-set win on the road, beating Slippery Rock 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-15) to improve to 15-7 overall and 6-3 in PSAC play.

One night after struggling on offense, the Golden Eagles were utterly dominant against The Rock, hitting .388 as a team and never worse than .308 in any one set.  Comparatively Slippery Rock hit just .049 as a team, and Clarion out-blocked them 5.0 – 2.0.

Julia Holden recorded 12 kills on 30 swings with just one error for a .367 hitting percentage, leading the way for the Golden Eagles on offense.  Lauryn Driscoll was just behind her with nine kills.  Chrissy Cotton had a match-high 14 digs while Leah Vensel dished out 33 assists.

Clarion started out the match on a 10-3 run, starting with a kill by Olivia Olson and finished off by a block from Driscoll and Marissa Robertson.  The lead reached double-digits at 15-5 after a kill by Aubrey Wrona, and Clarion held a 20-10 lead after The Rock's Erinn Kahoe committed an attack error.  Driscoll finished off the set with kills on two of the last three points, including the set winner to make it 25-13.

The second set started out much closer, with the score just 10-7 in Clarion's favor early on.  Things stretched out from that point though, as eventually the Golden Eagles enjoyed an 8-1 run to open up a 23-12 advantage. Robertson tagged a kill to force set point, and Jordyn Miller aced Beth Stumpf on the next point to take the win.  Clarion jumped out to another big lead in the third set, taking a 10-3 advantage on a kill by Holden.  Things quickly got out of hand as Olson and Vensel blocked Kahoe to make it 17-6, and Holden added another kill to make it 22-15.  After a Vensel ace forced match point, Slippery Rock's Kaley Fucci recorded an attack error to give Clarion the win.
