Women's Hoops Wins Opener 58-48 Over OVU

INDIANA, Pa. – The Clarion women's basketball team won its regular season opener on Saturday afternoon, defeating Ohio Valley 58-48 in the first game of the PSAC / G-MAC Challenge hosted by IUP.  The Golden Eagles (1-0) will wrap their weekend tomorrow afternoon when they play Alderson-Broaddus.

Kadijah Dickson stood out in her first regular season game with Clarion, posting a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Golden Eagles against the Fighting Scots.  Taylor Moltz scored eight points and pulled down seven boards, while Yndiah Bobo added seven points and four assists.

One of the defining moments of the game came in the fourth quarter after a 7-0 run by OVU tied the game at 46 with 5:37 left to go.  Clarion responded with a 12-2 run over the next 3:37, starting with a make from Moltz off a feed from Bobo.  Jordan Bekelja swiped the ball from Akiya Brown and tossed it ahead to Dickson for a make in the paint to up the lead to four points, and Dickson scored on a putback with 3:34 left to make it 52-46.  Bekelja nailed two straight three-pointers to cap the rally, making it 58-48 with two minutes left.  The defense did the rest from there, shutting out Ohio Valley and taking the win.

Ohio Valley opened the game by leading 11-8 after the first quarter, with Yasmin Lewis scoring a layup with 2:21 left to pull Clarion within a score.  The Fighting Scots held the lead through the second quarter, going up by three points with 1:28 left on a layup by Lindsey Bush, and it was not until the end of the third quarter that the Golden Eagles took the lead for a significant amount of time.  Morgan Dombroski drained a trey with 1:24 left to put Clarion ahead 37-36, and Dickson scored with five seconds left to make it 40-36 at the third quarter break.
