CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion women's basketball team won their home opener in impressive fashion on Wednesday, defeating Penn State-Greater Allegheny 77-23 at the Student Recreation Center. The Golden Eagles (3-0) have now won three straight games to start the season, marking the first such start since the 2007-08 season.

Clarion clamped down on the Nittany Lions, holding them to an 8-of-39 (.205) field goal percentage and forcing 30 turnovers. Comparatively the Golden Eagles committed just 11 turnovers and shot 48.4 percent from the field, including a 6-of-17 mark from three-point range. They also outrebounded PSUGA by a 40-29 margin.

Three Golden Eagles broke double-digits in scoring, with
Emily Hegedus posting the game-high with 12 points.Â
Neely Whitehead and
Imani Dockery each finished with 11 points, with the former adding six assists and the latter a team-high eight rebounds.Â
Kadijah Dickson had eight points and seven rebounds in just 16 minutes.

The Golden Eagles took the drama out of the game in the first period alone, outscoring PSUGA 28-3 and holding the Nittany Lions to just one field goal.Â
Yasmin Lewis opened the scoring with a fast break make in the paint, and later extended the lead into double-digits with a bucket off a feed from
Yndiah Bobo. Bobo finished with five assists in the contest. Whitehead scored in transition with 1:58 remaining in the quarter to make it 26-2, and Hegedus closed the first quarter scoring with a layup with just over a minute remaining.

Neither team got much going offensively in the second quarter, with the Golden Eagles outscoring the Nittany Lions by a 7-3 score to close the half. Â Things picked back up in the third quarter, with
Taylor Moltz making a three-pointer to build the lead to 48-10, and Dickson adding a transition layup to make it a 40-point game on the next possession. Bobo finished off her night with a score at the 1:39 mark of the third quarter, taking a pass from Dockery and laying it in to make it 57-14.

The lead reached 50 points late in the fourth quarter, with Hegedus making a three-pointer to bump the lead to 72-21. Whitehead followed with a midrange jumper, and the sophomore guard closed the scoring with a bucket to make it 77-23.
