WHEELING, W.Va. – The Clarion volleyball team saw its 2018 season come to a close on Friday night, as the Golden Eagles fell by a 3-0 (17-25, 16-25, 20-25) to the 12
th-ranked Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals at the McDonough Center. The Golden Eagles finish the season with a 22-12 overall record.

Chrissy Cotton was a standout in the match, finishing with a match-high 31 digs with in just three sets of action. That including an 18-dig performance in the first set.
Olivia Olson finished with a team-high nine kills on 20 attempts with just two errors, posting a .350 hitting percentage.
The first set was neck-and-neck to start as Clarion opened on a 4-2 run and Wheeling Jesuit quickly pulled back closer.
Aubrey Wrona started the run with a kill and eventually teamed with
Lauryn Driscoll to punctuate it, blocking Allonda Watkins to cap the rally. The first signs of separation came midway through the game, when the Cardinals went on a 7-2 run to build an 18-14 advantage. The Cardinals kept the pressure on, eventually winning the set 25-17.
The Cardinals took control of the second set, building an 11-4 lead and forcing the Golden Eagles into two early timeouts. Driscoll recorded back-to-back kills to cut the deficit to 12-6 but WJU responded with three straight points to regain the momentum.
Olivia Olson bounced a kill late in the set and the Golden Eagles scored two straight near the end, but the Cardinals were firmly in control and took the set 25-16.
Clarion responded with a strong start to the third set, with
Julia Holden ripping an ace to cap a 6-3 start to the game. Wrona bounced a kill to put the Golden Eagles ahead 10-7, but the Cardinals recorded four straight points after that to retake the lead. Driscoll came right back with a kill to tie the set again, and the duo of Olson and Robertson got a block to put Clarion up 16-13. WJU came back again, though, taking an 18-17 lead with a block on the left side. The Cardinals
