CLARION, Pa. – Clarion junior
Stevan Rodriguez captured his first double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 boards, but the Golden Eagles were unable to hold a late lead, falling at home to Davis & Elkins College on Tuesday, 81-76.
Clarion (1-1) was leading 71-70 with just 3:51 remaining in the game, but went cold from the field, missing their final 5 of 7 shots, while the Senators enjoyed a 5-0 run en route to the victory.
Sophomore guard
Khari Williams had the hot hand to start the game burying three 3 pointers, back-to-back-to-back to give Clarion an early 11 point advantage. Fellow junior
Jonathan Williams scored all 10 of his points in the first half, shooting 50% from the field, while grabbing 8 boards.
Brandon Williams added 8 points in the first half, before an injury hindered his return in the second half.

The Golden Eagles shot an impressive 44% from the floor in the first half, building a lead as large as 12 points. The Blue & Gold ended the first half on a positive note forcing a turnover in the last seconds to head into the locker room leading 45-35.

Rodriguez kept Clarion in the lead, scoring a team high 8 points in the second half. Returning from injury was senior guard
RJ Laugand, who added 7 second half points in 16 minutes. Laugand ended his day with 7 points, 4 rebounds and a team high 8 assists.

However, Clarion had no answer for D&E's big man Trevor English, who scored a team high 18 points on 8 of 11 shooting, while grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds.
Davis & Elkins also won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding Clarion 43-37 on the afternoon.
Rodriguez led Clarion with 18 points on 9 of 17 shooting, K. Williams added 13 points along with 4 rebounds. J. Williams chipped in 10 points and 10 boards on the day.
