CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion women's basketball team started fast on offense and clamped down on defense as the game went on, defeating the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford 64-36 at the Student Recreation Center on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles (5-1, 0-0 PSAC) held the Panthers to single digits in scoring in each of the first two quarters as they rolled their way to a 28-point victory at home.
Clarion held the Panthers to just a 25.5 field goal percentage in the game, including a miniscule 8-of-30 mark in the second half of action. The Golden Eagles forced 26 turnovers and turned them into 26 points, keeping Pitt-Bradford at bay and never allowing them back into the game.
Freshman
Haille Hart finished with a team-high 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting while also adding nine rebounds.
Yasmin Lewis finished right on the heels of Hart with 13 points, 3 rebounds and a steal.
Jordan Bekelja went 4-of-9 shooting adding 11 points, while
Imani Dockery added a team-high 10 rebounds on the afternoon.
It was all scholastic the rest of the way as the Clarion bench got in on the fun as well.
Emily Hegedus knocked down two free throws at the 5:40 mark to push the lead to 34 points. made a fast break layup to make it 64-36 to push the lead to 28 points. Hegedus added a fast break layup at the end of the fourth to wrap up her nine point, nine rebound afternoon as Clarion rolled to the finish.
Clarion will return to action on Saturday, December 1
st, when they travel to Lock Haven University to take on the Bald Eagles for their first PSAC matchup of the year. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm sharp, the men's game will follow at 3:00 pm.
