Women's Basketball Dropped by Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Clarion women's basketball team fell in its second conference game of the season, dropping a 66-55 decision on the road at Kutztown on Sunday afternoon.  The Golden Eagles (5-3, 0-2 PSAC) will return to action on Saturday when they host Mansfield for another round of PSAC play.

The Golden Bears took the lead midway through the second quarter and held it the rest of the way, building up a six-point lead by halftime and going up by 15 points through three quarters.  The Golden Eagles cut the lead to as little as eight points in the fourth quarter, but Kutztown rallied to hold on for the win.

Kadijah Dickson scored a team-high 11 points while also recording eight rebounds, and Jordan Bekelja also broke double-digits with 10 points.  Yasmin Lewis had nine points and seven boards as well.

Kutztown opened the game on a 12-2 run, but back-to-back three-pointers from Neely Whitehead stopped the bleeding and cut the deficit to just four points.  Dickson scored with 44 seconds left in the first quarter to cut the lead to make it 12-10, and Whitehead added a pair of free throws at the end of the period to tie the score at a dozen apiece.

The 14-0 run continued in the second quarter, with Haille Hart recording a steal and taking it in for a layup to put the Golden Eagles up 14-12.  Hart scored again on the next trip down the floor, making a bucket from the paint to put Clarion ahead 16-12.  Lewis scored with 5:19 remaining in the second quarter to keep Clarion ahead by two points, but Rylee Derr made a three-pointer to give the Golden Bears the lead for good.

Kutztown's went as high as 17 points in the third quarter, but the Golden Eagles eventually sliced the lead to single digits in the fourth. Hart scored at the 7:53 mark of the fourth to put the deficit at 10 even, and Dickson made it 53-45 on the next trip down the floor.  The Golden Bears responded and set the final deficit.
